Subject: Animated Cursors

I am sending along some more animated cursors that I have aquired. They
are not of my creation, only of my aquisition. There is also a DA that
can be used for viewing these cursors, as well as any other animated
cursor sets you may have. Some of them are in color.

They can be merged with the Cursor-Animator that I submitted recently,
a cdev that can be used to change your system cursor (created by
W. Plotz). Simply hit the MERGE button in Cursor-Animator, and select
the file with the new cursors.

Hi, Gordon!
Just got your mail about BillTrash...Hope I'm not TOO late!

    BillTrash is just a ResEdit file containing two icon families to
replace the standard Trash Can icon in the finder.  This replaces the
Trash Can picture with the likeness of Bill the Cat from Bloom County.

    Just open your System file with ResEdit and open up the ICN# resource
and find the trash can icons.  Open up the ICN# resource in BillTrash, too.
Copy each picture from each icon family and paste into the corresponding
icon family member.  Bill's mouth should be closed for the empty trash can,
and his tongue should hang out for the full trash can.

    There should be a "readme" file compressed with the resedit file, and
a STR# resource in the ResEdit document, both explaining what BillTrash is
and how to use him.

I have re-organized the icons for easier downloading; for the
beggining Icon'er, 10 files is too much to work with. There are
now 3 types of files to work with:

     1. Default Icons--Paste these into your Finder Prefs file
        with ResEdit. Make a copy of the "Finder Prefs" in the
    "Preferences" folder by dragging it to the desktop
        while holding down on the option key. Open "Default Icons"
        and the copy of the "Finder Prefs", and paste all the
        new icons in. Option-Move the original "Finder Prefs"
        to the trash and place the modified one in.

     2. Custom Icons--The icons can be pasted onto any file,
        folder, or disk running under System 7. They all
        have color icons and small icon equivalents. This set
        contains all of the previous custom icons I've released.

     3. More Custom Icons--These are additional color icons,
        designed after the first set, and in the format that
        you are used to. As I post more icons, they will be
        in this format (until I get around to re-grouping them).

Note: Some icons are very dependent on the color, and may only
look good in 8-bit color (256 colors).

If you have already downloaded all of the original 10 sets that I
have created, you won't need to re-download the second file.
However, I have cleaned up the Default Icons, so you may want to
download that file and replace your present icons. The third and
additional files will be posted as I create them, and you will
definitely want to get them.

Known Problems:
     *--After file sharing has been turned on, some hard disks
        will not accept Custom Icons. If you are having such
        trouble, I suggest a utility called iContraption by
        Brian Zuk.
     *--There is no way to install a colorized Default Icon for
        disks. This has to do with the way disk icons are handled.
        If you want cool color icons, you'll have to paste each
        on yourself.

Apologies to Brian Helenski (shag@caen) whose own "Smiley" icon was
   included with the original posting. This icon has now been removed
   from this archive.

Icon Colorizer is very nice, but I was unhappy that obsolete MacWrite
documents were colorized while MacWrite II documents remained in dull ol'
B&W.  So, I decided to see if I could figure out how to use the Color
Icon editor.  Both my artistic talent (more lack of same) and sense of
color coordination (at least from the perspective of my daughters) have
been called into question, so I'd be pleased to receive back anyone's
improved versions of these color icons for:

MacWrite II, Kermit, Speedometer, System Switcher, and TinCan
(an even dozen color icons compacted into only 6K, not too shabby).
ResEdit these into the Icon Colorizer INIT and reboot (EZ! :-)

Here are some icons for your enjoyment.  I make no claim to be any sort of
artist, I just like my Mac.  Feel free to distribute, copy, modify, or
toss, but please no selling.

If anyone raises any copyright issues with regard to these images I will
plead insanity (with plenty of character witnesses to back me up).

The dinosaurs icons I've had around since ColorFinder days, switching them
to sys 7 style caused some color changes - they used to look better.

For the astronmers in the audience, I know the comet tail is pointing the
wrong way, but it looks better the way it is.

    This is an attempt at some desktop textures.  I am not
sure where to put it maybe in gui.  I tried to use colors that
didn't hurt my eyes like some of the textures that came with
the new version of desktop installer (2.1).  BTW most of the
textures look the best in thousands of colors but look pretty
good in 256 also.  I do not recomend any one with any thing
less than 256 colors use this texture file.

Fly-(fli): 1.(Adj.) Of or having to do with extreme coolness. More
          radical than most can deal with! See Also: Hip-Hop, Groovy,
          Nifty, etc.

Here is a new batch of 3D color icons that I've drawn up, that are cool enough
   to be called "Fly Icons".  I have some new Cartoon Personalities, some new
   Hard Disks, as well as a few Appletalk Remote derivatives, and of course
   numerous folders.
As always, these icons are compressed with Stuffit Deluxe, to preserve the
   icons in the Finder for easy access.  Use copy and paste to add them to
   new folders.

Some notes:
   *   Some people have experienced problems with what is called the
       "Icon Shuffle".  This occurs when a large number of custom icons
       open into a single window. As far as I can tell, this is a bug in
       the Finder, because it has no discernable pattern. I've heard that
       the icons usually right themselves given time.
   *   The new program Iconder, available at most of the archives, is an
       easy way for anyone to make quick custom folder icons.  If you
       haven'tseen it yet, pick it up. If you have, you can now make your
       own 3D! custom icons, with a little ResEdit-ing.  I have included 3
       different resource files to add to Iconder to go from plain blue to
       "Fly 3D". (Usual ResEdit warnings apply!)

Subject: Icons for customizing the representation of folders.
The following archive will interest those who like to customize their desktop under System 7 and have Resedit. They will have a lot of icons to play with in a format that could be used rapidly.
With the commercial program IconMover 3.0 from CE Software, sold with Calendar Maker 3.0, it's possible to easily scrounge icons from any standard applications and files or to create them from scratch.  These icons can be stored in a template containing up to 24 different ones.
Open the templates included with Resedit. They have only the resource ICON, so you can't miss it. You double-click on that resource, then on the icon you want, modify it if you desire, select it as a picture with the tool designed for that, the same way it's done in any paint program, go to the Finder without quitting Resedit and paste it to replace the standard representation of any folders, like explained in the documentation that comes with System 7.
If you paste the icon of a program over the folders in which it's stored, you will have no way to differentiate them. With Resedit, you can add a dot to the icon of a folder to differentiate the folder from the program. With folders in which you have only files, you don't have that problem.
I tried pasting directly the icons from IconMover to the folders, but they were not stable, so after experimenting I used the way described above. I don't make any promise, but it worked perfectly for me.

Icons by Geoffrey Z.

These icl8 icons are attempts by myself to liven up the windows of the Mac
world.  Feel free to both use them and give them to anyone who you think would
enjoy them.  If, by some rare chance, you actually enjoy them enough to desire
many more of my psudo-modern art icons, simply send a disk, a self-adressed
& stamped somthing (so I can ship the disk back!) and 5$$$ (I'm one of those
typical starving collage students who enjoys working with a computer, and this
small amount of money is simply an incentive for me to spend more time on the
computer and less on studies!)  Oh, and if this program even gets anywhere
geographical, I would love a postcard so that I can see how far it has traveled.

   This is a file that contains 6 icons.
This file is done by ICON Designer.  The 6 icons are: rice ball
(one of my favorite Japanese food), Birdie(from Peanuts), Ranma 1,
Ranma 2, Ranma 3(one of my favorite Japanese comic's character),
and Chun-Li(from Street Fight II).  Unfortunately, it's black and
white. This is free!(of course)
The way this file would work is you open this file
with ResEdit then simply copy it to clipboard and then get infor-
mation from any one of the icon and change it.

If anybody likes it, I really want to hear the voice from them.

Here are some Initial Icons that people might like.  They are like the big
blocked and decorative letters that you find at the beginning of book chapters.

These Icons are created from some scanned images that I used when making a
book about Medieval Woodcuts.  I've updated them to include the entire alphabet,
plus a few extra duplicate letters.  I believe they are from the 15th century.
I noticed them getting passed around the university here quite a bit, so I
thought maybe others would find them enjoyable.  They are 256 grayscale, but
can still work in simple black and white, though they look really choppy if
you do.

I don't claim to own these images, nor do I want anyone to send me any money
for using them.  If you like them, send me E-Mail saying so, and I will try
to make more (I have some rather nice comic book ones I've made too) if
people would want them.

Well, I just upgraded to System 7.1 so I updated the Kitty Litter trash can
replacement too.  This was not my idea, but somehow I seem to be the Kitty
maintainer now (-:  Here is a portion of the READ_ME:

"If the trash icon is offensive to your delicate sense of aesthetics (who
ever heard of a "fat" trash can?) then you'll love this trash can replacement.
Kitty sits behind his litter box, smiling at you, until you throw something
away.  When you put something in the trash, Kitty disappears, leaving you with
a smelly litter box that needs to be dumped.  When you dump Kitty's litter, he
returns, happy that his litter box is clean."

Here are the Resedit resources for System 7.0 and System 7.1, one after

This version of Icons R Us have been modified to not use folders as icon
holders. Each icon is now a single resoure file that you cannot accidentally
double-click to open into an empty folder.

I would recommend that icons be distributed in this way, as it would reduce the
number of folders a hard drive would contain. And since the Finder does not add
up invisible file sizes, Get Info on a lot of invisible files would be
deceiving.

Enclosed with this message is an archive called robincon in
"sit" format. The archive contains two instruction files, a
folder with a modified icon and a ResEdit resource file.

Rob's Icons are icons that can be used to replace icons in
system 7. On every disk that contains it's own icon, there
is an invisible file system 7 uses called "icon". I've
provided instructions to do it yourself with resedit and
the instructions are in word 4 and text formats. A resource
file containing a set of icons is included. This will make
up volume 1. I thought it would make your desktop or disks
more interesting like the way some shareware did, but at a
freebie price.

I got a huge response to my first collection, and hopefully this next

Subject: One last update to Simpsons Icons file

September 21, 1993

To the Sumex folks,

It is necessary to write to you one last time, because I have one last
update on my Simpsons Icons file. Sorry about all the trouble; this has
been my first "upload" and I guess it took 3 tries to get it right.

Anyway, the problem is that although my icons are free to distribute, one
person said he had modified the icons by putting them in a resource file.
The problem is that some of my work will be lost (some of the icon
resources will be gone). I didn't want them distributed in this manner, and
realized that I'd better send ya'll an updated file, which had a statement
in my "read me" about NOT modifying the original file upon further
distribution.

So, please put this SimpsonIcons.sea file in place of the one that's there,
in the info-mac/gui/grf directory. Thanks for your patience. I can't see
any other reason that I'd have to make another; this is it--finito.

Once again, thanks loads for your patience and cooperation with this
first-timer.   :-)

A Desktop Textures file containing 13 8-bit desktop patterns I made with
TextureSynth Demo (128x128), and 1 with Photoshop (256x128: use for 16-bit
or less monitor setting).  Easy to make, but collected for your
convenience.

(May be included on the commercially available CD-ROM of the archives, if
you think it's worth it.)

Subject: [*] System 7 icl8 Replacement Resources

For those who would like to improve the appearance of the Finder
under System 7, but lack the time or nerve to create their own
color icons (NOTE: COLOR), I'm submitting this Binhex'd & Stuff'd
ResEdit file containing icl8, ICN#, ics8, & sicn resources with
IDs matching those in the System file. Simply use ResEdit to copy
all these resources into the System file, allowing existing items
with the same IDs to be replaced. This will change the default
color icons used for folders & plain documents, as well as those
used for the new System 7-specific stuff: all the folders within
the System folder, Stationary files, default Extension files, and
so forth. Some of these icons originated with SunDesk and all the
other Finder colorizers used in pre-System 7 days (they were
great while they lasted). Feel free to modify them to your own
preferences - that's one of the great things with the Mac. One
tip if you use these - don't bother using Grey as a label color,
since it will appear exactly the same. Most of these icons are
grey-shaded, and therefore do not change when a Grey label color
is applied. Probably why Apple chose the ugly color it did, but
with 8-bit video in my IIsi there are more than enough colors
to go around. Those with 24-bit color (I'm R=0, G=65535, B=0 with
envy) have even more, so there. Have fun!

7.x. All System Folder icons are included (Control Panels, Drop Box, Fonts,
etc.).

While you're downloading, get IConArtist by N. Jonus Englund. You'll need it to
install these icons in your System file. IConArtist is small (<50k), so it
won't be that much of a pain to download.

Toilet Hack 1.0(for System 7.0.1)This is a couple of ResEdit files containing

ItOs working fine with System 7.1, but as usual you use at your own risk.

This is a ResEdit file which has the resources necessary to change
your boring trashcan into a thrilling non-politically specific
DETONATOR.  It has icons of a TNT box with the handle down when
empty and a handle that pops up when full.  This has the nifty
effect of a silent visual boom when it is emptied.  There are
resources which also will change the finder "trashcan" to "detonator"
and "empty trash" to "detonate."
Why just throw away your files when you can blow them to bits?

If you would like to throw your files away into a box instead of the Mac trash
can, then replace it with TrashBox.  TrashBox is a replacement icon for your
trash can.  It even shows files in the box after you've thrown them in there.
Use ResEdit to install it into your Finder file.

I came up with this when I noticed that I tend to use empty boxes to throw
away trash, so I decided to let my Mac imitate real life...
